What it is ​

Folios.Gallery is a very selective showcase of portfolio websites that avoid the safe, minimal template look, favouring interactive identities and unusual layouts. It is curated by aaali (aaali.xyz), who also runs Browse.cool, wwwtf.site and Sections.wtf, and is built in Framer. At review it listed 23 portfolios, split into Individual (14) and Studio (9), and a weekly update newsletter had started in July 2026. Entries range from personal sites of independent designers to studios such as Studio Freight, SILENCIO and Off Menu.

When to open it ​

Open it when you are designing a personal or studio portfolio and want proof that a portfolio can carry a strong, playful identity, or when a brief asks for something more expressive than a clean grid of case studies.

Most useful ​

  • Individual and Studio tabs: a quick split between one-person sites and agency sites, which solve different problems.
  • Per-site pages: each entry has its own page with a link to the live site and a "More Sites" strip for browsing on.
  • Tight selection: a small, opinionated list, so almost every entry is worth opening.
  • Weekly update: a newsletter for new additions, plus an open submission form.

Using it with agents ​

No API, feed, llms.txt or export. Open the live portfolios yourself, note what makes each one memorable (navigation idea, type scale, cursor or scroll behaviour, how projects are revealed) and turn that into a written brief for the agent. Ask for the idea, not a copy of someone's personal site.

Watch out for ​

  • Tiny catalogue with no tags, filters or search; the sitemap lists about 44 site pages, more than the tabs show, so some entries seem unpublished.
  • It is young and partly reuses Browse.cool's template: at review a site page still carried a Browse.cool title.
  • Many picks are heavy on WebGL and motion, so check performance and accessibility before borrowing an idea.

Reusable ideas ​

  • Split a portfolio gallery by who made the work (individual or studio), not by discipline.
  • State the curation angle in one line ("no boring minimal portfolios") so visitors know what they will get.
  • End each entry page with a short strip of related sites to keep browsing going.
