What it is ​

Realtime Colors is a browser tool for tuning a website palette and heading/body typography against a long sample page. Its fixed template uses color roles for text, background, primary, secondary and accent, with controls for fonts, type scales, color harmony, light/dark appearance and exports. The URL records the current color and font choices, making a particular preview shareable.

When to open it ​

  • When a few palette candidates look plausible as swatches but you need to see where each color lands in the live sample page.
  • When choosing colors and typography together, especially for headings, body text, buttons, links and cards.
  • When you want a quick export after settling role assignments.

Most useful ​

  • Full-page preview: the default sample has a large hero, buttons, cards and further sections. The floating toolbar keeps five color roles visible while scrolling, so repeated surfaces can be judged with the same palette.
  • Color role controls: choose individual text, background, primary, secondary and accent values; a compact contrast indicator appears at each role.
  • Light/dark and harmony: flip appearance or try analogous, complementary and other schemes without leaving the sample.
  • Type controls: compare heading and body fonts, choose a type scale and inspect text within the same site layout.
  • Exports: the tool offers CSS, Tailwind CSS, SCSS, custom variables, shades and QR sharing.

Using it with agents ​

There is no published MCP, API, CLI, registry, skill or llms.txt. An agent can create a color/font URL for a reviewer to open, but the page is primarily an interactive browser check. Exported CSS can be copied by a person; the site does not expose a documented programmatic endpoint.

Watch out for ​

  • The one sample page cannot tell you whether a palette works in your own information architecture, data density or component states.
  • The source repository labels the website's specific code and materials CC BY-NC-ND 4.0. Generated colors can be used commercially, but don't copy or adapt the site's template, icons or source materials into a product.
  • Its contrast lights are a useful signal; verify required WCAG pairs and states in the target UI.

Reusable ideas ​

  • Assign color by role and preview the roles on the same real page rather than asking users to infer usage from swatches.
  • Keep the color controls available as a sticky toolbar during a long-page preview.
  • Put typography choices in the same environment as palette choices so the contrast between display and body text is visible.
  • Encode tool state in a shareable URL for review without an account.
