What it is ​

Huemint generates color combinations against visual contexts instead of returning only a row of swatches. The template menu includes brand marks, website layouts, gradients, illustrations and Bootstrap-style screens. Its About page explains the model as proposing colors for roles such as background, foreground and accents, with an optional contrast matrix and a creativity control.

When to open it ​

  • When you have a rough visual direction but are unsure how the colors will divide across background, text and accent roles.
  • When comparing a palette across different composition types, start with the verified Brand generator and use the sidebar to explore other templates.
  • When you want to explore palette variations while keeping one seed color fixed.

Most useful ​

  • Template examples: the About page shows a sample layout and explains the template picker. The Brand generator is a verified direct demo; use its sidebar to open Website > Magazine or an accent variant. I could not verify a stable separate URL for those Website presets, so open them from the live template menu.
  • Lock and regenerate: lock a swatch and rerun generation to hold the seed while testing different supporting colors.
  • Contrast matrix: set desired contrast relationships between color roles before generating, which helps make foreground/background intent explicit.
  • Creativity setting: raise it to explore less common combinations; lower it for more conventional candidates.
  • Public API: POST https://api.huemint.com/color accepts palette size, generation mode, temperature, adjacency values and optional locked colors. The site says this API is for non-commercial applications and offers no uptime guarantee.

Using it with agents ​

The public HTTP API is the only published agent channel. It is documented on the About page and is limited to non-commercial applications. An agent can request candidate palettes from a role-contrast matrix, but the service is best treated as an exploratory dependency with no uptime commitment. No MCP, CLI, registry, skill or llms.txt was found.

Watch out for ​

  • Generated contrast is not a WCAG pass/fail guarantee; independently test actual text, control and focus colors.
  • The site's About page describes an older, image-heavy template interface. Treat each page as a colorization example and verify that its controls and templates still work before depending on them.
  • The API is non-commercial only. Palette output rights and the licence for site template artwork are not stated, so do not bundle either as a reusable asset.

Reusable ideas ​

  • Generate colors in the context of named roles instead of asking for an unlabeled palette.
  • Let users lock the colors they have already approved while exploring the rest.
  • Express desired contrast relationships as a small matrix that can be reviewed before palette generation.
