What it is
Designspiration is a long-running archive of saved images covering graphic design, typography, photography, architecture, interiors, packaging and UI. Shelby White created it in 2010, according to its blog. Members save images into collections, and the explore page groups them by topic, from album covers and annual reports to named designers such as Armin Hofmann or brands such as Braun. Every save shows a five-colour palette pulled from the image, with the hex values, and the site describes itself as an image and colour search engine.
When to open it
Open it for print-minded, graphic-design references (posters, editorial layouts, identity, type), or when you start from a colour story and want images that already use it.

Using it with agents
No API, llms.txt or MCP, and the terms forbid automated access. Use it by hand: collect a few saves, copy the hex values you like, and give the agent the palette plus a written description of the layout and type mood.
Watch out for
- The product moves slowly: the Pro roadmap still lists an iOS app and a Figma plugin as "up next", and the blog's newest posts date from about 2015.
- Many saves are reposts from blogs and aggregators; credit is inconsistent, so trace the original.
- Extracted palettes describe an image, not an accessible UI palette. Check contrast before using one.
Reusable ideas
- Pull a short palette from every image and show the hex values next to it.
- Let people search a visual archive by colour as well as by words.
- Turn saved references into a templated board that exports as a PDF for client pitches.
